Rate hikes for everyone reached 50%. I went to pay my bill and it was nearly $1,000 for two used cars for six months. Given where I live and what we have traditionally paid, there’s no way I’m paying that much a year. *thumb on nose* Thhbbbthththththtth!!!!!

Someone has to fund all that advertising and pad Warren Buffett’s bonus. Margaritaville isn’t free, you know.

I pay about $100/month for full coverage on two older daily drivers plus the Firechicken. Erie insurance.

I pay $1300 for 2 cars... and that’s considered cheap in my area.

I had GEICO 10 years then dumped them hardcore.
I had $100 a month for my M3. No accidents, no tickets. Then I moved to Maryland and they raised my rates because of Maryland and then told me because my credit was off (because I moved and used my credit card) that they needed to raise my rates more. They sent me a letter stating it was my credit score that raised the rates. I paid off my cards and called them demanding they review my credit again. They stated they do not use credit scores as a means to determine cost. I sent them a letter stating they do exactly this. They refused.
2 years later, I move back to Florida. They raised my raised another 20% and again cited because I had used my credit card to move it was the cause of the raise. So in 2 years, with no accidents I went from $100 a month to $169 a month? Fuck off....
I dumped them and cited it was double jeopardy. I went to Progressive and pay $90 a month for slightly more coverage than before.

I have Geico and pay about that for two cars, a 2016 and 1986, in a high insurance city. Mine went up about 50 bucks from the last six months. I was ok with that since everyone but State Farm who wanted 2500/6 months was about the same when I last shopped for insurance.

Maaaaan, we pay over 3200 a year for 3 million liability and comprehensive, with no collision, on a 2003... and that is with a 20% good driver no claims discount.
Fuel is like $5 a gallon, due in large part to taxes and fees, just because.
And they want to institute either distance based or congestion point tolling to ensure that the government gets a (bigger) cut every day you get behind the wheel.
Scenic, but I fucking hate it here.

I hate this place so much. Everything is bad about Vancouver but the weather and views, most of which I can’t afford to enjoy.
But where to go?

I realize it’s based a lot on where people live, but 50% hikes no matter where you are is a sticker shock and a financial concern when basing the budget on it.

fair enough.

Where to go... That is the (save a) million dollar question.
As soon as I find it I will let you know!

In my shopping around today, State Farm is now less than Geico for me.

Erie I’ve heard is phenomenal. Not sure they’re available out here in Colorado.

My wife and I flew to Halifax last summer so that I could attend some job prospecting interviews and look at homes. We’re currently operating for that to be the goal in 4-5 years.
We’d be 30 or 31, we own a (crappy) townhouse right now (since we were 23) and the growth in value alone could pay for a home of similar age/quality there. We both work in industries where there are jobs (albiet less) in Halifax.
It is a beautiful and historic city.
Long term, Vancouver is not a viable option for younger people, especially if we want kids one day. Plus the commute is killing me from Langley to Vancouver.

Interesting. I used to have State Farm. I moved away to a new city for a year and their rates multiplied by 4 upon my return so I moved on. I do not understand insurance pricing.

I have been perusing homes for sale in the eastern provinces and have been leaning in that direction myself. What would be a down payment on a condo here buys you a detached home on an actual piece of land over there. Saw a 15br/15 bath bed and breakfast selling for well under 200k. Looked like it was in the proverbial middle of nowhere, but still, Tempting!
I need to take the family on an east coast adventure and do some exploring.

Lethbridge! We could always use a few more southern Alberta oppos. Weather here is decent (but windy at times), big enough to have the good stores, but small enough for a fast commute.

My family is actually originally from Lethbridge and the area!
Thomas Gushel is my Great, Great grandfather and Evan Gushel is my Great Grandpa (obviously, it would follow).

I am trying to convince the wife to let me drive us to Waterton/Glacier via southern AB this summer. I want to show her my Great Grandpa’s stuff in Crowsnest.

That’s really neat! Although I didn’t grow up in southern Alberta, some of my ancestors did. My great grandpa helped dig irrigation canals.
Lethbridge really is a decent place to live. There is a bit of crime (mostly drug related), but it’s definitely no East Hastings. Housing prices are reasonable and the economy is fairly stable.

Erie has been great for me so far. I haven’t had to file any claims, yet. I do get a little discount because I have my homeowners insurance with them too.
